Aboriginal Art Spirit of the Bush 2 Matjumpa-Kangaroo Cotton Quilting Fabric Panel is from the Spirit of the Bush 2 Collection designed by Chern’ee, Brooke and Jesse Sutton for Kennard and Kennard.
This fabric panel is 100% cotton and the panel measures approximately 30 inches x 43 inches. (76.20 cm x 109.22 cms).
Chern’ee Sutton. Chern’ee is an award winning, modern indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people around the Mount Isa area in Queensland.
This fabric design is called “Matjumpa Ritjinguthinha” in the Kalkadoon language which means “Kangaroo Dreaming” and this painting tells the story of how the kangaroo got her pouch. Long ago the kangaroo had no pouch and her young had to hop along beside her, there were many dangers and obstacles for the young joeys. One day a fire threatened Matjumpa and her joeys and so she was granted a pouch so they could escape the flames
